How To Talk About A Bad Boss Or Work Environment In my latest profession advice piece for Work Reimagined, I discuss tips on how to sidestep questions on a adverse surroundings during your job interview: In a job interview, you want these methods to avoid sounding unfavorable and hurting yourself. Tell your story with information, not judgments. Your old boss yelled too much. Your former work setting favored face time over outcomes. It’s exhausting to be goal if you’re affected negatively, but “too much” or “face time” are judgment calls. Your old boss would beg to differ, and maybe raised voices motivated your ex-colleagues. If you might be asked to describe a much less-than-ideal former situation, focus on simply the information: what was your boss’s title and scope inside the organizational construction (so we all know where you match into the structure); and what had been the corporate’s enterprise targets (so we know what your group targeted on).
